Home Decor is a popular topic among the opposite sex (Woman), is Home Decor. It simply is just a niche that is popular but not bigger than some other niches out there. This is the very first niche that I got into because I didn’t know what I was doing. This post doesn’t suggest that getting into Home Decor is a bad idea, it’s just point of view coming from a dude that start a website in Home Decor. So yeah, I started a Home Decor website (and the domain you ask?, yeah, it was Decorative Soul dot com. Someone else owns the domain for now.
I started this blog out with Pinterest backing me up, and all I really was doing was uploading cool images from Pinterest to my site and giving credit back to the original owner. So, maybe my website was a bad example. So, if your looking to start a website on Home Decor, this post and website mentioned is a bad example to refer to as a success story. But, if your looking to start a similar site like mine, I suggest you get into creating original content, so Google ranks you better.
Other than that, let me get into this story. You’ve probably read other stories about websites that were successful, well, this is a long haul to success. It all started with another blog called Luxury Housing Trends, the girl who created the site was just like me, looking for a new opportunity on the web to make some money from home. Well, things have changed a bit overtime, though the same thing to note still says the same, “original content is yours, and only yours”. “Unique content is the key to success”.
I no longer scrape content from the web. But if you look at LuxuryHousingTrends.com, you will notice that the content is a bit different now. Plus, I noticed that that original owner changed. So maybe she sold the site to someone else.
But anyways, this all started with a Youtube video that I found of a woman talking about how “Adsense changed my life”, I can only describe the video since it was taken down since I last saw it. Basically it was just a woman talking about her success story with Luxury Housing Trends and that she was making thousands of dollars per month from Adsense. I’m not suprised as this site was launched around 2008, which is the beginning of Adsense in a way, you could launch any website in a small niche and start making money. It was almost the birth of the internet, you could say.
Well, this Home Decor site did very well during it’s time thanks to it being launched during this birth of the internet time period, though I don’t know any more details than this. The truth I have learned now is that the key to building a successful website in 2021 is starting off a website in a niche that is in high demand. More and more people are getting into blogging every day. But there is one weakness to this, which is most people give up after a few days of starting a blog. So, if you actually start a website and stick with it for a year at least, you are bound to make money from it.
And anyways again, my little Decorative Soul website was launched in 2012, and in 2015 I was making decent money. I had the Adsense app on my phone so I could keep track of my earnings every day, where I would go, it was almost like a lottery ticket, but my site earned on average of $3 to $35 a day. My earnings increased every day the more I posted over time. I would do 2 posts a day, which I estimate that before I took the blog down I had around 2000 posts.
It was the rare posts that wasn’t posted often that I got credit for which gave me more traffic. I remember a post that showed a picture of a dog outside an under stairway dog house got me ALOT of backlinks, including one from BuzzFeed. I was shocked to see they actually linked back to my website. Well, a lot of other websites linked back to me for that post. Basicallly, I learned that 1 in every 50 posts I would get mentioned by someone, somewhere, giving me traffic.
That is the reality of a website that scrapes content from the internet, and I honestly admit I was threatened for posting content that was owned by someone else, and I did comply with every one of their requests, so don’t worry. I eventually went on vacation for a couple weeks and lost my wallet and cancelled my credit cards, all leading to me losing the website completely because I didn’t make the payments for the hosting fees. I can understand people who can’t always afford their hosting fees or who cancel the credit cards while on vacation and can’t make hosting fee payments… it happens, and it happened to me.
I lost a $500 a month investment which I could of kept going for years and years up until now. So anyways, if you have any questions about starting a site in the Home Decor niche please leave a comment down below and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks for stopping by to read my post. Cheers.
