Well, here we are. I have installed Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS on an HP ProDesk 400 G3 MT desktop. This computer I upgraded, you can read more about the build here, I made a detailed post about it all. To get the right distro for this to all work, I didn’t do anything special to get it to work. I was just a noob and downloaded the main ISO for Ubuntu, used Rufus to make a bootable USB stick, booted from that USB on this computer and boom Ubuntu was installed after waiting a few minutes.
You can actually get the specifications for your Ubuntu machine by going to Search, and just type in About, and the right options for you to click on will pop up. Anyways, I took a screenshot of the specifications of this computer and inserted it into this post which you can see below. Anyways, I guess your wondering how well everything else works on this machine?. Well, everything works basically. If you have a specific monitor configuration and you don’t boot up your computer for awhile (into Ubuntu), the settings might be forgotten so you will possibly have to reconfigure those settings which is very easy to do with Ubuntu.
For SEO purposes, I will include the above specifications into text below…
- Model: HP ProDesk 400 G3 MT
- Memory: 32GB
- Processor: Intel Core i7 6700
- Graphics: nVidia Geforce GTX 1650
- Firmware Version: N03 Ver. 02.06
- OS Name: Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS
- OS Type: 64-bit
- GNOME Version: 46
- Windowing System: X11
- Kernel Version: Linux 6.8.0-47-generic
Everything that I have plugged into this machine has worked, even the gaming headset that I reviewed on my other computer which is the Fifine H6 USB Gaming Headset and no drivers were needed to run the headset. Another thing to mention is that I actually plugged in my new printer and it found the driver for it automatically! (Canon imageCLASS MF3010 Multifunction Monochrome Laser Printer). Now the real test is to see if it prints a random document that I give to it.
See above, you’ll notice the printer is recognized. It unfortunately wasn’t a HP, but the model number is definitely the MF3010. I will be writing a review of this printer in the future but, I tried to print a random document using Libre Writer and unfortunately it didn’t print anything when I told it to. That’s okay, because I still have my other Windows gaming PC that is compatible with it, in case I need to print anything. So as you can see, there’s quite a bit of apps, and including some other devices that will work with Ubuntu. I can see Chrome OS supporting this laser printer but, I’m not gonna be using that OS anytime soon. Maybe next year. So if you have this desktop computer, go for it and install Ubuntu on it, it’s a lot of fun to play around with.
