So, here is what I found on Amazon (and through some helpful reviews) on what I should get for a portable backup solution. I believe I bought v1 which the newest v2 has some features worth shaking a stick at. Like up to 1050MB/s, USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2, IP65 Water and Dust Resistance, Updated firmware and maybe more?, I haven’t gotten there yet but, this is a pretty good upgrade from the first one as people were complaining that the firmware needed an update. Well, I think Sandisk has fixed this now. If you have a v1 Sandisk 2TB SSD like me, maybe check out this link to see if you can update the firmware without buying a whole new SSD. You can buy the V2 2TB Sandisk SSD through this link on Amazon which I may earn a commission from if you buy anything.
Anyways, back to my review!. I honestly haven’t had any problems with this SSD and I have locked it to my desk using a deadbolt so it’s basically going nowhere unless you got the key or a blow torch. I did forget the password to the SSD before and fixed that by rebooting to my old OS and logging in automatically then resetting the password. That was a bit complicated but it worked out. Make sure you don’t forget your password if you set one on one of these things because I have no idea how to recover it once it’s set, but I am sure someone knows how to do that.
There are some other great things about these SSD’s, like the 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance, which means these drives can take a beating for sure. No moving parts too which is a huge bonus, and these drives are decently affordable nowadays too. A huge bonus is the key clip built into the design of these SSD’s, which is how I was able to lock mine to my desk!. And of course the 256-bit hardware encryption which helps with protecting your data.
All it takes to use this thing is the Sandisk Memory Zone app, in order to manage files and free up space automatically. And to simply plug it into your PC and it will ask you to launch an app, which you will need to do so in order to enter your password before your computer even recognizes the drive. Gone are the days of carrying a heavy hard drive which wouldn’t fit in most pockets.
These portable SSD’s can fit in your pocket easily and if you are a PC user you will need software in order to get a Mac to recognize the drive, the software you need for this on a Mac is Microsoft NTFS for Mac by Paragon Software which costs around $45 CAD or you can try iBoysoft NTFS for Mac which costs around $75 (from what I remember). If you know of any free NTFS drive reader software bundles for Mac please leave a comment down below.
If you own one of these portable SSD’s and have some feedback to share with us please leave a comment down below!. Don’t forget to share this with your social media friends!.
