So here is the monitor I bought back in 2020 from Best Buy that was an open box. It is indeed a gaming monitor, but curved!. Honestly, it’s never failed me ever. But anyways, here is my review, first let’s get into the specifications. This is a 27″ FHD Curved Gaming Monitor (that link was to that monitor on Amazon but it’s discontinued now) obviously made by Samsung. The resolution is 1080p, and the aspect ratio is 16:9. I’m actually typing this article away while looking at it. This is why I always buy the best and buy from the source (sort of, I didn’t get this from the Samsung online store unfortunately). I probably paid like $150 for this thing and not a penny more, that’s after taxes and shipping. I didn’t notice any dead pixels when it showed up, it was just perfect when I turned it on.
So, I guess this monitor is about 4 years old now (and we’re about to get into 2025 in over a month from now), so it’s treated me well so far. I have of course opened a few cans of soda right next to it so I can see the spots on the screen but that’s basically my fault, I will probably get a screen cleaner solution and wipe that stuff off pretty soon. Unfortunately, this monitor is not available anymore and you can still find curved monitors on Amazon or Best Buy for example during the Christmas holidays for a bit cheaper than what you’d pay during the summer time. Despite this monitor being curved, games look pretty good on this monitor, and if I had the money at the time I would buy another if I could afford it, right now I just got a little 24″ AOC monitor next to it which is also 1080p, but it was just something I bought in an emergency when I didn’t have a 1080p monitor at the time (I bought the AOC around 2016, will make a post on it next).
Anyways, because I am so tall, I would recommend for anyone that is 6″2 to get a monitor stand (or two of them) from Amazon.ca (affiliate link, we may earn a commission from what ever you may buy), as they will give you more space for other things on your desk, and I find the monitors to be more level with my eyes instead of looking downwards all the time. That exact link in this paragraph is the same exact monitor stands I purchased for my monitors and they have served me well so far. They only costed $15.99 CAD. Anyways, back to this review, I believe the buttons to change the resolution for this monitor or change any other settings is on the back with a convenient set of buttons so make sure you feel around the back of the monitor after buying it.
The choice between flat or curved monitors is really up to you, but I’d have to say that so far this monitor has been really nice to have. I mean, of course it’s a bit difficult to transport around if you move once every 2 years but, just put it in a Banana box upside down with a pillow on top and you should be okay. I would say it’s really nice to be able to have a monitor that’s much more focused on you viewing it (if you sit with it centered on your eye sight, there is a difference on viewing quality versus looking at a flat screen the same way). I did end up getting some more monitors for my HP sleeper build, but those are flat and were affordable when I bought them, flat screens are just cheaper from my experience.
So what is your opinion on curved monitors?, leave a comment down below and let me know!. If you like the flat screens, maybe explain that too in the comments. Cheers, thank you for reading my review, don’t forget to share this article on your social media and your friends.
