So I noticed that I still have one of these in my closet, and I originally bought this Sabrent USB 3.0 to SATA External HDD Lay-Flat Docking Station (affiliate link) in 2019. Since then, they have updated the model that I bought and added a different color LED light for the power indicator (I think?), and there is a fan below where you insert the Hard Drive or SSD. I might just order an updated one at some point!. At the price of $34 CAD, this is a bargain, and there is no need to screw anything in, this entire enclosure is tool-less.
So this thing has dimensions of 18L x 12.2W x 4.1H Centimeteres and weighs 7.5 ounces, and should work with both Mac and Windows. Maybe even Linux?, someone please confirm this in the comments down below. The maximum supported storage amount is apparently 22 TB’s, which is insane!, I never knew those sized Hard Drives even existed!. Some other things to know about this enclosure is that it supports UASP protocol and offers you ultra-high data transfer rates of up to 5 Gbps when it’s used with a USB 3.2 port, meaning a HD movie can be transferred in just seconds apparently. When I first plugged in this unit, it was plug and play, but I guess you expect that with most devices now-a-days.
From seeing this enclosure work for me for about 5 years now, I can say that Sabrent is a pretty good quality brand, I have no complaints so far and also, my enclosure I bought still works so thats a good thing. I’ve used it with many Hard Drives and Solid State Drives (just so you know it supports 3.5 inch and 2.5 inch drives), and I have never had one problem. I did actually find it confusing how the power button is right there and I never knew, it’s that round thing on top, oh boy was I stupid not to notice that right away. Anyways, I definitely recommend buying one of these if you need to transfer your data to and from different machines.
