According to this article, LG has left the mobile business completely. While I know a couple people that loved their phones, they will remain legends in the history of smartphones. Though, at LG’s Best Shop locations across South Korea, customers may be over there looking for a new smartphone, not one made by LG, but by Apple. A move such as this makes sense as LG stores will be soon finding themselves with empty floor space and available sales assistants that used to be dedicated to LG phones.
According to Business Korea, Apple and LG could be in the process of negotiations with some major bits to yet to be worked out still. Firstly, will these Apple carriers within the LG stores be operated by Apple employees and will LG employees actually help out with selling Apple’s iPhone’s?.
And also, what kind of products will those Apple corners sell?, iPhones, clearly, but also iPads and Apple Watches too, but what about Laptops and Desktop computers?. This last part is apparently causing a huge argument between the two tech giants, as LG sells its own laptops and the MacBooks will be competing with those. So, if Apple wants to keep their computers out, which also means that Apple corners in LG Best shops will not be providing maintenance services for those computers, Apple is against this apparently.
The final decision will be reached sooner than later, said an LG Electronics official. Though, LG will most likely want to close the deal by the end of July, which is when the last sales of LG phones will be coming to an end. There are over 400 LG Best Shop locations around South Korea, so this could be a huge expansion of Apple retail space within the country itself, without needing to build Apple stores at all.
