Getting a PS5 in Canada, ever since the release date of November 19th 2020 has been nearly impossible since Covid-19 was a problem the year before that release date. Because of this virus, the manufacturer decided to make the console only available online, and within a year or two, only some consoles were shipped to stores. Around this time, there is even a newer, slimmer console available which is about 25-30% smaller than the original PS5.
I was lucky in 2022, when I was working as a truck unloader, I noticed one come off the truck, and I purchased it on my lunch break. Well, about 6 months later I sold it to my room mate since I wasn’t using it much. Then I later realized that I needed one again. About 1 year and a half later, (being about 2 weeks ago), I was able to buy one at Wal-Mart which was the only one in stock at the time. I remember these consoles (Playstation 5’s) going on eBaY for around $1000 CAD for a sealed box and $100 shipping to any location in Canada. So as you can see there are scalpers out there that just want to make some extra money. Aside from that, it is still a little bit difficult to get a PS5 in Canada.
But it has gotten a lot more easy to get one. If you have $1000, you’d have more than enough to get one for around $650 (for the console itself and maybe a game to go with it), and then also a couple more games and a spare controller just incase your main one breaks or something. That’s the general idea of investments you need to get a PS5 these days in order to be able to afford one after taxes with a couple games and extras etc.
Anyways, let’s get to where you pick one up. If your near a bigger city, or you live near nothing but sticks and are far away from all these places I will mention, you can either drive there or have one delivered to your door. I believe that the majority of people wanting a PS5 these days and that can afford one, has one. So, there is much less demand for a PS5 these days, making it easier to get one in the first place. It’s been about 3 and a half years since the release date of the original PS5.
The places you should look into getting a PS5 is, The Source, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, EB Games, Staples (really?, yes), and last but not least, Amazon. Just watch the prices, there are scalpers out there and they are usually classified as “Private sellers”, or “Marketplace Sellers”. Make sure your not spending more than $579.99 for the Digital version of the PS5 (no Blu-ray) and $649.00 for the PS5 (with a Blu-ray disc drive). I’d also recommend getting the one with the Blu-ray disc drive that way you can buy what ever game in the physical copy and simply copy it to your SSD. Also, you can obviously play Blu-ray movies on these things, which these players are the best on the market for playing movies.
Anyways, I wish you luck in finding your Playstation 5 Slim as that is what they are now and the first gen PS5 consoles are no longer being sold. I have a PS5 Slim and it runs great!, just make sure when you get one to turn off the automatic Rest-mode features and you’ll be good to go.
