First of all, I will point out that getting a new PCI sound card will cost you about $70 CAD, if your desperate for one of those I recommend either ASUS or Creative. Back in the day, sound cards were a must-have, if you wanted something that would sound GOOD. Well, now a days, the built in sound card in your motherboard is all you need, who cares about those expensive sound cards. I will be honest, I was originally looking for a PCI sound card to add to my custom built PC, but after looking at the prices ($70 CAD for a Creative Labs model), I was thinking “there must be a USB model out there that will do the same job”. I kept looking, and eventually found a good branded USB Sound card!, Sabrent is pretty good so I bought one. This is my review of that one USB sound card. It looks like the above one there, and I double checked the model numbers and that’s the exact same one. I would take my own pictures but my room is kind of a mess at the moment. Anyways, I originally bought a Sabrent external HDD enclosure, and the quality was very good!, so I thought they would be good for this kind of thing too. So, the original problem was basically this… I tried plugging in a pair of headphones, and sure enough the sound was horrible!, to the point where you got to turn the cord back and forth while it’s still plugged in, in order to get the right sound quality through the headphones.
It’s really only meant for these kinds of cases, and the computer that I had problems with was an old HP (which is my old Sleeper PC). Anyways, after ordering this part, I simply plugged it into the front USB port and then plugged in the headphones (pretty good brand name but I can’t think of the name right now), and BOOM!, the sound was ten times better. Usually, USB ports don’t totally wear out, and sure enough I was right about that. If I ever want to get a PCI sound card, I can do that, but in this case, I didn’t need one and I can swap this one out with other computers too, I think it works with both Mac’s and PC’s. I usually don’t have problems with the Mac’s, it’s usually only the PC’s that the headphone jacks start to fail from heavy usage.
