So here’s what powering my main rig right now as we speak, this power supply I bought back in 2019 USED, off eBaY. I bought it because it was compatible with the Dell Inspiron 3670 I had at the time in order to power a better graphics card for it. I paid about $64.99 CAD for this thing and it worked perfectly in that Dell I had. Even though I had held onto that Dell for awhile, I also held onto the older PSU that came with it, then later sold the Dell to some random guy on Craigslist. I bought this specific modular power supply to power my custom computer (still talking about the Dell that I had). I even had to drill custom holes in the case in order to be able to screw in this power supply.
So it was for about 3-4 years that I used this with the Dell Inspiron 3670 (I will be making a post on this later), and using that Dell as a gaming PC wasn’t a very good experience. I knew I had to build something faster. So that’s why I got rid of that Dell in late 2022 as mentioned above. My current build now is detailed in this post I made a few days ago. And that build is really fast. But, I think some Core i7’s out there are faster than the CPU I’m using which is the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X. Anyways back to the review of this power supply. After I sold the Dell Inspiron in late 2022, I used that PSU from that machine in this new build, it’s just a temporary place for it to be used. I plan on getting a new power supply for this machine at some point in the future.
The point of this review is to explain how long it has last so far. As the new year (2025), it will have lasted about 6 years which is insane!, I bought this thing used!, how can a used power supply last so long?. Anyways, when I also first bought it in 2019, I also got some cords for it (don’t worry the cords are also made by corsair). There is a little box you can buy with all the cords you need to power your machine and it wasn’t that expensive either, though, after looking at the current price of this box I bought back then, they’re currently a bit expensive. So if your buying a modular power supply, make sure you buy it NEW, not used. That’s the problem I had with this power supply (except I lucked out on that box for cheap). Lack of power supply cables sucks.
I don’t remember getting this box because the PSU I bought was used obviously, but anyways, back to the point. If your looking for a long lasting power supply, make sure you consider getting a Corsair branded one, or Seasonic. One of the two brands there will last you a long time. I’ve never actually owned a Seasonic power supply but I was told by a PC nerd that they last a super long time. There are some RGB power supplies out there too but, I don’t recommend those unless Corsair or Seasonic makes them, which I just looked and the only good RGB power supply I could find was made by ASUS (I didn’t know they made power supplies). They are overpriced anyways.
So anyways, I hope that helped you decide on what power supply to buy, and to prove to you guys how long these Corsair power supplies last. As long as they don’t get clogged with dust, you don’t pour water in one, cockroaches or any other bugs don’t get in, I think you should be okay. You should probably also get a UPS if your worried about power surges, oh and always use a Surge Protector if there is lots of lightning where you are.
