Well, here it is. I originally had a Lexmark color laser printer which I gave away to my old room mates thinking it wasn’t worth anything. When I moved and settled in, I searched online and that exact printer was worth over $500 when I paid $150 for it back in 2016. So, I can’t get it back now, I had to buy a new printer, and this was the one I found that I could afford. A new color laser printer costs about $500-$700 depending on what brand you choose and what features you want. Anyways, let’s move onto this review. The Canon imageCLASS MF3010 Multifunction Monochrome Laser Printer is a good choice of printer if it’s on sale (I got mine at Staples.ca and it was shipped to my location by them, since they are pretty close to me). So, I think it only took a couple days for it to arrive. It’s got a scanner, and Monochrome basically means that the printer is Black and White. I don’t think I really would fully benefit from getting a color laser printer, they are just so expensive you know?. All I really did was plug this printer in, after removing all that orange plastic inside, and it printed fine when I turned it on and told my computer to print!. The drivers were recognized by Windows 10 automatically. But, if your using Ubuntu or Linux etc., make sure you check this link out to get that driver for this printer to work with that OS. This printer has a pretty good rating at about 4 stars out of 5. You can also get a warranty with these machines but, I honestly never purchase those warranties, they are not worth it unless you use the printer often.
I have honestly never used the scanner because I use my smartphone for that. If I really need to use it, it’s there. Basically, this is a 3-in-1 printer. You can Print, Copy and Scan, just an FYI. It will print up to 19 ppm black. It should deliver first prints in around 8 seconds. It also offers paper handling of up to 150 pages in a front loading cassette, so you don’t have to load it up as often. It will print sharp monochrome output with a resolution of up to 1200 x 600 dpi. It will go up to 9600 DPI (interpolated) color scanning quality. It also features an I.D. Card Copy which easily creates copies of your ID cards or other smaller documents. There is also a simple control panel (7-panel 1-digit LED).
This printer also features a single cartridge system which combines the toner, drum and waster toner all into one unit for easy maintenance and cost-efficient supplies replenishment. The Advanced Print Modes include Watermark, Toner Saver, Poster and Page Composer. There is also a energy saving mode, with 1.2 W of energy used. The dimensions are approximately 10.0″ H. x 14.7″ W. x 10.9″ D. and it weighs 16.8 pounds, so it is not a lightweight printer at all. There is of course a 1 year warranty included, but I have never in my life ever needed a warranty on a printer, the only thing that I would need to do is replace the ink cartridges when they get super low and that’s it.
What ever you do, never tip the printer upside down, and of course don’t let moisture get to it, like common sense with most electronics like this. But anyways, now I no longer need to go to the library to print stuff, or to Staples, so that is a huge bonus of owning one of these units. My rating for this printer would be a solid 5 out of 5. And for your information, lasers usually last as long as you own them and don’t usually have issues with ink like some inkjet printers out there, this is very common. The ink in Laser printers is a powder, where the ink in Inkjet printers is liquid, so you can see the difference there.
