So, some people out there struggle to learn how to use computers and they decide to buy a new laptop, or a desktop, running Windows 11 or 10, etc…. and after a couple months that system starts to slow down after installing a bunch of programs which they wonder why that is. In this post I am going to explain one possible theory on why your computer starts up slow and runs very slowly in the first few minutes of booting it up. Below, you will see the Tray Icons menu which exists in both Windows 10 and 11 and can help you figure out whats slowing down your computer at startup and during the first hour of use.
All you got to do is right click on any of those icons to see what they are and what they do. Try Googling each program to see if it’s something you really need or not. If you find something that’s useless, by all means just disable it, which can be done within the app itself or by using the Startup Apps menu in Windows to enable or disable each program. To see all your programs, simply type in the Search bar of Windows “Startup Apps”, and click on that when the search results come up.
Above you will see the window that comes up, after Googling if you need the program or not, just hit the On button so it turns to Off, then close that window. Right clicking on the Tray icon at the bottom right, will allow you to close the program if it’s currently running. Below, you will see an image showing a program called Steam, and in the settings you will see that it has a setting to enable or disable the program to startup when Windows starts. Of course, I have that turned off, now my computer runs a lot faster because of disabling it.
Now, Restart your Windows computer to see if it runs faster at startup. It should, and if it never was fast enough to begin with, maybe think about upgrading the RAM in your system, that’s a really affordable way to speed up your computer and to run more programs at once.
