It is a good question to ask if you actually need an optical drive or not for a new PC build. I actually bought the White Fractal Design Focus G PC case off Amazon, and after I built that computer, I maybe used the optical drive itself a few times then stopped after my car stereo was upgraded to a new one that features Bluetooth Audio Streaming. No need for CD’s anymore. The case below, is actually the Black Fractal Design Focus Mini G case from Amazon and is a bit smaller than the case that I have.
Below is an Optical Drive that looks like the one I bought for my own machine. So yeah, I barely use it now and haven’t needed it for anything. But, some people still have CD to rip to their music libraries, or have purchased old games in the past that have a disc, so if your that person, you should probably think about building a PC with a Optical Drive, but if not, don’t worry about it. Let me tell you about an option that might work for you, and will allow you to build a computer without an optical drive and you can just plug in an external drive via USB when you need it. Take a look below the image below and I’ll explain more.
It’s the ASUS Powerful Blu-ray Drive with 16x Writing Speed and USB 3.0 for both Mac and PC (BW-16D1X-U), which goes for a whopping $216.06, however, it will save you the space inside your PC. You can literally just put this drive on top of your PC case if you really want to, or anywhere else on your desk, it barely takes up any room. I am sure there are cheaper external optical drives out there too, this isn’t the only one. But, this is just a solution for those who once in awhile need an optical drive and don’t want one inside their PC.
Below, you will see what a clean Mid Tower case looks like without the optical drive, it’s almost like a fish-tank design where you can see everything through a window panel on the left and the RGB is like what every other PC case from these days looks like, just like your celebrating Christmas every day or something. I don’t know how to say it but, it’s just the trend now a days and everyone is doing it to their PC’s. Back in 2010, it was all about LED’s in a single color but, around 2016 that trend changed to full on RGB. Incase your wondering, the below case is the Fractal Design Pop Air RGB Black which is available on Amazon.ca for about $119 CAD.
So, if your still deciding on what to get, I would definitely recommend doing your research and definitely see how many possibilities there are out there on the market, as with PC’s you can customize everything. I did explain what was possible but incase your still curious on some things please just leave a comment down below and thanks for reading if you made it this far!.
