So this is a completely optional thing to do, and I think there are two types of people that use Windows so making the switch is entirely dependent on what your needs are.
Not much experience using computers?
If your not really sure how to build a computer or prevent your computer from getting a virus, I would strongly recommend getting Windows 11, which you can upgrade to within Windows Update (it should be free I think). I’m saying this because Windows 10 will no longer be getting the latest patches from Microsoft and it will be easier for Windows 10 to get a virus since it’s not getting updates anymore.
You know some things about Windows?
If you know to stay away from Bit Torrent, or Porn sites then you might be able to get away with keeping Windows 10, but this is kind of a 50/50 thing… or another way of putting it, I would “sort of” recommend getting Windows 11 since it’s really not a whole lot different than Windows 10, the Settings menu is about the same and I believe the Control Panel is still kickin’ so maybe you would be better off upgrading at this level of experience with Windows or just computers itself.
Your all out a complete nerd like me!!
If your all out a computer nerd and know how to set up a computer and fix most problems, sticking to Windows 10 might be the smarter way to go if you know that Windows 11 is too buggy for your computer still, etc. For me, when I ran Windows 11 on this machine, Youtube would black out sometimes so there are probably issues with the graphics driver that have not been fully fixed yet. I also tried Windows 11 back when it was in beta (on my Dell Inspiron laptop) and it ran okay but it really depends on what kind of hardware you have and how up to date it is.
If you just bought a computer (desktop or laptop) just recently today or a few weeks ago, most likely it will support Windows 11. Where I just built my computer about two years ago, as previously mentioned, it has graphic card driver issues right now and has not been fully updated yet. I know at some point I might as well do the upgrade but, for the time being I am going to stick with Windows 10.
One last thing I will mention is that, if you do the free upgrade through Windows Update, it should keep all your information intact, and always remember that Windows has a really good backwards compatibility record as compared to Mac OS X. So that old program you use to use on Windows 7 might still work in Windows 10. Where older apps for Mac OS X don’t always work in newer versions of Mac OS X, just comparing because there are so many issues with Mac’s now a days, depending on the apps you use.
