So here’s two PS5’s that I only own 1 of them now because I originally bought the first gen one then sold it to my room mate, and later on I bought the Slim (2nd generation PS5) which I will be writing a review of in this post. Basically, both of these consoles look and feel the same when your using them, but the 2nd Gen PS5 is just a bit smaller which is a nice thing to have. Maybe they use a faster CPU and GPU than the 1st gen PS5 and I am going to get into more details about that in the paragraph below. You can get the 2nd Gen PS5 in this link here, (affiliate link, we may earn a commission from what ever you may buy).
Basically, they both have the same amount of storage which is 1TB (all I need!), and they both have physical disc drives which is nice to be able to buy a physical copy of what ever game too. I paid about the same amount of money for both, and the box they came in are about the same size too. It’s realistically about a 30% reduction in size for the 2nd gen PS5 versus the 1st gen PS5. According to other sources though, both consoles have the same specifications, there is just a reduction in size that’s pretty much it. The weight of the old ps5 is 4.5 Kg and the dimensions were 390x260x104mm. The new slim model is 3.2 Kg and is 358x216x96mm for size. I also hear the new PS5 Pro is about the same size as the first gen PS5 which kind makes sense since it’s a bit more powerful and probably has more storage.
And after buying the PS5, you can later buy a M.2 SSD for it which these drives are pricey, take a look below at what the prices are at. Firstly, there is a guide on how to install the SSD here. Secondly, you can get a 4TB SSD for around $484 CAD which is kind of pricey, but if all you need is 2TB’s, your looking at $184 CAD. I doubt any of you will actually get a freaking 1TB SSD, that’s so small! (I know, that’s what she said!).
I should also mention that yes, you can use a External HDD or SSD, however, it has to be a minimum of 250GB’s to 8TB’s, and must be USB 5Gbps or later, I guess in order to be able to load games fast etc. For a 2TB Seagate External HDD (just for example), your looking at paying about $90 CAD, which isn’t too bad in my opinion. But, if you want to save space, of course, go for the smaller SSD’s. But your gonna need money, and a lot of it.
So anyways, I really don’t see the need for the PS5 Pro, so I will be sticking with the Slim (2nd gen PS5) now anyways. Incase you were wondering what the price was for the PS5 Pro, it’s about $1000 CAD, which is only around $250 more than the current slim model that is available now. I haven’t used one before but I am sure you can benefit from it, like the speedier CPU and GPU and support for higher resolutions.
Conclusion
I think that’s all I wanted to say about all three consoles, I can say that YES I have tried the Xbox Series S, which is the digital version of the Xbox Series X, and to me it wasn’t as exciting as the PS5. Apparently, Sony is already working on a PS6 too!, why the heck would they start working on that so soon?. Owell, more money for them. It will take awhile before I upgrade from the PS5 Slim.
