The newly announced Huawei Nova 4 was revealed on stage at a concert in China. The new device appears to have a display similar to Samsung’s new Infinity-O display. If the manufacturers actually start using these new displays, we may see the notch go away completely.
As you can see in the photos, the display on the unrevealed Nova 4 actually features a small camera cutout on the top left corner of the screen. This will leave more room for almost a full status bar at the top of the phone, albeit one that actually starts slightly to the right of the front facing camera. For any of those folks who have an extreme dislike for the notch, this is a very exciting move from Huawei.
As popularized by the iPhone X itself, the notch has been one of the most controversial smartphone design decisions of our time, as of last year. Though, I do not know many people who actually like the display notches, and most people just put up with them.
We may also see even more smartphone manufacturers adopt these new displays going forward from now on. Not only has Huawei clearly testing these out, but Samsung has also recently announced a brand new Infinity-O display which utilizes the same concept seen on the Nova 4. Which, as a matter of fact, the Galaxy S10 is rumored to feature an Infinity-O display.
Aside from the brand new display, the Hauwei Nova 4 looks to feature a very minimal bezel around the screen itself. It also looks like it’s all wrapped in a case, so we are unable to tell many other design features. If you would like to get a closer look at the phone, skip to around 35:30 mark in this video.
Thoughts on this new display?, leave a comment below. Would be be much happier if OEM’s ditched this notch and instead used these screens instead?, I would be happy for sure, I’d have to say.
